Anthony Carlisle

Sir Anthony Carlisle (* February 15, 1768 in Stillington, † November 2, 1840 in London ) was an English surgeon, who with William Nicholson discovered electrolysis in 1800.

After completing his studies in London at John Hunter he was in the 1783 Surgeon Westmister Hospital and remained there for 47 years. When he in 1800 with William Nicholson repeated the experiments of Alessandro Volta, both discovered the electrolysis random.
