Anthony Lane

Anthony Lane (born 1962 ) is a British film critic and journalist.

Life

Anthony Lane attended Sherborne School and completed his English degree with a thesis on the poet TS Eliot from Trinity College, University of Cambridge. He then worked for a time as a freelance writer and literary critic for the British newspaper The Independent. From 1991 he was a film critic for the Sunday edition Independent on Sunday. In 1993 he received to write a film critic the offer of Tina Brown for The New Yorker. Since then he works there and shares the job with David Denby. For his movie reviews Lane has been nominated three times for the National Magazine Award. After 1996 and 2000, he missed out, he was awarded in 2001.

Together with his wife, the Welsh writer Allison Pearson, and their two children, Lane lives in Cambridge.
