Anton Rop

Anton Rop (* December 27 1960 in Ljubljana) was between 2002 and 2004, the fourth Prime Minister of Slovenia. Until 2005 he was also Chairman of the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia.

Rop finished in 1984 his studies in economics at the Institute of Economics in Ljubljana from. Between 1985 and 1992 he was deputy director of the Slovenian Institute of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development ( Institut za makroekonomske raziskave in razvoj ). He was appointed Secretary of State with the task pane privatization and Regional Development 1993. Between 1996 and 2000 he served under Prime Minister Janez Drnovšek as Minister of Labour, Family and Social Affairs.

After the election for the National Assembly in late 2000, he was appointed Minister of Finance. He held this position until his appointment as Prime Minister of Slovenia on 19 December 2002. After his party lost the Slovenian parliamentary elections in October 2004, he had to give up in favor of his successor, Janez Janša, the post on November 9.
