Anton Steck

Anton Steck ( * 1965 in Freudenstadt ) is a German violinist and conductor.

Life

Anton Steck began with the study of modern violin with Jörg- Wolfgang Jahn in Karlsruhe and the baroque violin with Reinhard Goebel in Cologne. After his studies he worked as concertmaster of Musica Antiqua Köln, and the French ensemble Les Musiciens du Louvre under Marc Minkowski. With these ensembles he gave concerts around the world and has participated in more than 30 CD productions. In 1996 he co-founded the Schuppanzigh Quartet, whose first violinist he is. From 2005 to 2008 he was leader of Concerto Köln. In 1997 he made ​​his conducting debut with the Handel Festival Orchestra Hall, since 1999 he is artistic director of the ensemble.

In addition to the intensive study of the instrumental music of the Baroque period, plug is reinforced with virtuoso violin music apart before 1830. His repertoire ranges from early Baroque to the sonatas violin concertos by Louis Spohr. The recording of the unknown sonatas K. 55-60 of Mozart and the sonatas of Johann Georg Pisendel has received several international recording prizes.

In addition to his concert activities Anton Steck is since 2000 professor of baroque violin and director of the Baroque Orchestra of the State Conservatory of Music Trossingen. He is married to Marieke Spaans, who also teaches at the Trossingen Musikhochschule.

Anton Steck plays a Jacob Stainer from 1658 and an Alessandro Gagliano of 1701.
