Anton Walter

Gabriel Anton Walter ( * February 5, 1752 in Filderstadt, † April 11, 1826 in Vienna ) was one of the most important piano maker to the Viennese Classical period.

From 1778 to 1825 Anton Walter maintained a piano building workshop on the Laimgrube in Vienna. In 1790 he received the title of "kk chamber organ builder and instrument maker " and made 1791 the oath of citizenship. In 1796 he was mentioned in the " Yearbook of Music in Vienna and Prague " as the most famous piano maker of his time. His instruments were played and praised by composers such as Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert. He owned a farm in Miesbach and was the stepfather of Jacob Gauer man.
