Jakob Gauermann

Jacob Gauer Mann ( born September 3, 1773 in Oeffingen near Stuttgart, † March 27, 1843 in Mies Bach ) was a German painter, draftsman and engraver.

Gauer man worked first as a stonemason and then spent three years at the High School in Stuttgart, Karl. Having traveled to this with the head of a newly established art dealer in Stuttgart and Heilbronn Switzerland, he drew and etched on his extraordinarily rich sketches stock about six years, but had to then, as his business friend was insolvent, nourish private lessons.

In 1802 he visited with Martin von Molitor ( 1759-1812 ) Tyrol and started after returning the preparation of both its scenic sketches as well as its own landscape compositions, which was followed by rural scenes from the life of the mountain people of Austria. This work made ​​him known to the Archduke John, who commissioned him in 1811 to take up the most beautiful scenic views of Styria. In 1818 he was appointed painter to the court and remained there until his death. Gauer man died on March 27, 1843. He has little oil painting, on the other hand delivered numerous watercolors. His sons Friedrich and Carl were Austrian painter.

His grave is located in Vienna's Central Cemetery (Group 0, number 1, number 59). In 1870 in Vienna Inner City (1st district) was named the Gauermann alley after him and his father Friedrich Gauermann.
