Antonio Brack Egg

Antonio José Brack Egg ( born June 3, 1940, the district Villa Rica, Pasco ) is a Peruvian agronomist, ecologist and researcher on biodiversity. Between 2008 and 2011, was Brack Egg first Peruvian Minister of Environment.

Biography

Antonio Brack Egg came on 3 June 1940 at Villa Rica district in the province of Oxapampa, Pasco region, to the world. He is a descendant of the immigrant family Silzer Egg, his mother is from Pozuzo, his father was German. He received his secondary education in Biology and Chemistry at the Colegio de la Inmaculada in Lima, graduated 1963, Profesor de Educación Secundaria, 1973 doctorate Brack at the University of Würzburg.

Upon his return to Peru Antonio Brack worked in the Dirección General Forestal Ministry of Agriculture and engaged for the vicuña population. The organizations UNDP, FAO, USAID and GTZ and further he stood as a consultant. His findings, he published numerous books and articles, and as a contributor in the television series La Buena Tierra in TV Perú.

After, with the support of Germany, the Peruvian Ministry of Environment was created on 13 May 2008, Brack was nominated as minister and appointed October 14, 2008 by President Alan García Pérez.

As Environment Minister Antonio Brack Egg fought the illegal gold mining in the rainforest and called it also the use of the military. He campaigned for the creation of a market for emission rights, which should sell Peru on industrialized countries to make the environment more lucrative. In addition to the activities of the International strongly criticized mining companies such as Doe Run Brack wanted to focus on the informal mining sector and especially on the still largely unregulated sewage and waste disposal, the serious environmental problems in Peru represented for him.

At the change of government on July 28, 2011 Ricardo Giesecke Sara - Lafosse took over the office of the Peruvian Minister of the Environment.

Awards

Antonio Brack Egg received the 1996 Premio Nacional del Medio Ambiente Barbara D' Achille and 2004 the price Esteban Campodónico por servicios a la sociedad peruana. For the Prince of Asturias Award 2009 in the category Eintracht Brack Egg was nominated.
