Antonio Pampani

Antonio Gaetano Pampani, also Pampino or Pampini ' (* 1705 in Modena, † December 1775 in Urbino ) was an Italian conductor, opera and oratorio composer.

Life and work

Pampani emerged as a musician for the first time on 18 July 1729 on the sources, when he was nominated for the post of Kapellmeister at the cathedral of Fano, but he could not compete because of its simultaneous commitments at the opera in Urbino. Since 1730 he occasionally worked with the Teatro del Sole in neighboring Pesaro. In 1734 he went as final opera director to Pesaro, where he worked until 1737. Twice he went in this time because of the performance of two of his operas in Venice. In 1746 he became a member of the prestigious Accademia Filarmonica of Bologna. From this time he devoted himself to the urgent composing operas ( opere serie ), which were performed in Venice, Rome, Milan and Turin. From 1747 to the 60s taught as maestro di coro at one of the four great Venetian music schools, the Ospedaletto, and he composed for his oratorios and concerts psalm settings. In December 1767, he was appointed as Kapellmeister at the Cathedral of Urbino, but the place was at first in July, after he had to work on his last composed for a Venetian opera house opera, " Demetrio " completed, which premiered in May 1768. Pampani died in Urbino in December, 1775, his successor as Director of Music Giuseppe Gazzaniga.
