Antonio Tebaldeo

Antonio Tebaldeo (* 1463 in Ferrara, † 1537 ) was an Italian poet.

Life

Antonio Tebaldeo was born in Ferrara, where he became the tutor of Isabella d' Este and Lucrezia Borgia then secretary later. During the tenure of Pope Leo X., he went to Rome, where he enjoyed the papal promotion, and became friends there with writers and artists to, among other things, with Raphael. Tebaldeo wrote numerous sonnets and eclogues in Latin and Italian. He is the successor Francesco Petrarch. His poetry has a patriotic undertone, now seems rather contrived, however, for the most part. Tebaldeo poems were first published in 1499 in Ferrara without his permission. They appeared in the 16th century in several editions.
