Anywhere but Here (film)

Anywhere But Here ( Anywhere But Here ) is an American film drama directed by Wayne Wang from the year 1999. The screenplay was written by Alvin Sargent based on a novel by Mona Simpson. The film starred Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman.

Action

Adele August and her 14 - year-old daughter Ann August draw in 1995 by Bay City (Wisconsin ) to Los Angeles. Ann is not thrilled to have to give up her old life. The mother and daughter live first at the Beverly Hills Hotel, then in a small apartment. Sometimes Adele is unable to pay the bills.

Adele wants that their daughter is actress, Ann 'd rather go to college. After about two years, Adele sold their car to allow Ann to study.

Kenneth Turan criticized in the Los Angeles Times of 12 November 1999, the film adaptation of the subtle and complex novel.

Edward Guthmann of San Francisco Chronicle highlights especially the good interaction between Sarandon and Portman.
