Anzourou

Region

Anzourou is a rural municipality in the Department Tilabéri in Niger.

Geography

Consisting of 20 administrative villages, three traditional villages and hamlets existing 23 municipality is located north- west of the regional capital Tilabéri on the Niger River. In climatic terms it belongs to the Sahel. The main town of the country church is the administrative village Sarakoira. The neighboring municipalities are Inatès in the north, Tondikiwindi in the east, in the southeast Sakoïra, Bibiyergou the southwest, Dessa in the west and Ayérou in the northwest.

History

In the debate over the leadership of the Songhai Songhai eich a group fled the late 15th century by Anzourou. In this inaccessible area, the Songhai argued long against external influences and against attempts by the Gao Empire and the Tuareg to subjugate them. 1899 came Anzourou as part of the newly created circle Sinder ( cercle de Sinder ) under French military administration. 1905 was connected Anzourou the new military territory of Niger ( Territoire Militaire du Niger ). Around 1906 there was an uprising in Anzourou the Songhai against the French colonialists, which was suppressed with a firm hand. In a nationwide administrative reform in 2002, the rural community Anzourou from the eponymous canton Anzourou emerged. The hunger crisis in Niger in 2005 Anzourou was one of the most affected places. Here the population had less than one meal a day.

Population

At the 2001 census Anzourou had 23,871 inhabitants. For the year 2010 31.564 inhabitants were calculated.
