Region

Sinder is a rural municipality in the Department Tilabéri in Niger.

Geography

Sinder is located on the right bank of the Niger River northwest of the regional capital Tilabéri. The neighboring municipalities are Dessa in the north, Bibiyergou in the northeast, Sakoïra in the east, in the southeast Tilabéri, Gothèye in the south, and Dargol Kokorou in the southwest and MEHANA in the West. In climatic terms, the community is part of the Sahel, from a geological point to the older Precambrian. The municipality is divided into 21 administrative villages and 82 hamlets. The main town of the country church is the administrative village Sawani.

Sinder is not to be confused with the former Nigerien capital of Zinder, particularly in older German-language publications -. Example in the travel accounts of the German African explorer Heinrich Barth - also referred to as Sinder

History

Heinrich Barth, who encamped before the settlement in 1854, for which he used the spelling Ssínder, estimated its population including a barrier island settlement on 16000-18000, describing them as regionally significant grain market. In the military occupation of the later Niger colony by France 's Indian was next Doulsou and Yatakala 1899, the first place where a French military base was established. Sinder was the capital of the district 's Indian ( cercle de Sinder ), which included the territories of present-day departments Téra and Tilabéri. Already in July 1900 Doulsou became the chief town of the district. 1905 's Indian was the new military territory of Niger ( Territoire Militaire du Niger ) connected. Later, the national significance of the site disappeared.

Population

At the 2001 census Sinder had 25,133 inhabitants. For the year 2010 33.269 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

Sinder is located in an agricultural area, are grown in the rice and millet. The townscape is dominated by round granary.
