Apollinary Vasnetsov

Mikhailovich Vasnetsov Apollinari (Russian Аполлинарий Михайлович Васнецов, scientific transliteration Apollinarij Michajlovič Vasnecov; * 25 Julijul / August 6 1856greg in Rjabowo in Vyatka, .. † January 23, 1933 in Moscow) was a Russian painter who mainly the field of history painting made ​​a name. Life

He grew up in an old established family of priests. At the age of 13 he was an orphan. Although he possessed extraordinary talent, he received no systematic training as an artist. In 1872 he graduated from the seminary. At the urging of his older brother Viktor Vasnetsov, he went to Saint Petersburg. In the period from 1872 to 1875 he studied painting with his brother, Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov but also in, Ilya Repin, Mark Matveyitch Antokolski and Vasily Maximov Maximowitsch.

In 1875, he refrained from his purpose to enter into the St. Petersburg Academy of Art, and put an examination from a public school teacher, after which, to teach there after he Bystriza Governorate Orlowski went. Disappointed by this activity left Vasnetsov 1878 Bystriza and went to Moscow to his brother to devote himself entirely to art. Here he met the patron Savva Ivanovich Mamontov know.

From 1901 to 1918 Vasnetsov led the character class of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In his last years he dealt among other things with archaeological investigations. Apollinari Vasnetsov died in 1933 in Moscow.

Much of his work is now in the Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum.
