Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Germany#Vicars Apostolic for Upper and Lower Saxony

The Apostolic Vicariate of Upper and Lower Saxony was established on April 6, 1709 and included the territories of the former bishoprics of Minden, Verden, Halberstadt, Magdeburg, Havel, Brandenburg, Merseburg and Naumburg, which were subject to the Vicariate Apostolic of the Nordic missions until then. In 1743, the Saxon hereditary lands were divided and the new Apostolic Vicariate of the Saxon dominions assumed that in 1921 the new Diocese of Meissen slammed. The Vicariate of Upper and Lower Saxony had its headquarters in Hanover (Basilica of St. Clement ), and was therefore called Apostolic Vicariate of Hanover.
