Aran (river)

Bridge over the Joyeuse at Urt

The Joyeuse (also called Aran ) is a river in France, which runs in the department of Pyrénées -Atlantiques, in the Aquitaine region. It arises under the name Ruisseau d' Aïnchartéa in the municipality of Hélette, on the north face of Mont Baygoura. The river drains generally to the north by the French Basque country and empties after 48 kilometers at Urt as a left tributary of the Adour in.

Not to be confused with the homonymous river Joyeuse, who is in the same region, but opens into the Bidouze!
