Aranda (comarca)

Aranda is a Comarca (administrative unit ) of the Aragon Autonomous Community in Spain. It lies in the west of the province of Zaragoza and has an area of 561 km ² 8,018 inhabitants. Its capital is Illueca, the largest of the 13 municipalities of the comarca.

The Comarca is bordered to the west by the province of Soria (Campo de Gómara ), on the north by the Tarazona y el Moncayo Comarcas and Campo de Borja, to the east by Valdejalón and on the south by the Comunidad de Calatayud. It is crossed by the rivers Aranda and Isuela.

The Comarca is rural and agricultural. The most important industry is the shoe manufacturing in Illueca and Brea de Aragón, the two largest places.

In the comarca of the castle of the Antipope Benedict XIII is. ( " Papa Luna " anti-pope 1394-1423 ) in Illueca and the castle of Mesones de Isuela, a fortress from the 15th century.

In addition to Illueca Comarca include the communities Aranda de Moncayo, Brea de Aragón, Calcena, Gotor, Jarque, Mesones de Isuela, Oseja, Pomer, Purujosa, Sestrica, Tierga and Trasobares.
