Tarazona y el Moncayo

Tarazona y el Moncayo (German Tarazona and Moncayo ) is a Comarca (administrative unit ) of the Aragon Autonomous Community in Spain. It is located in the extreme northwest of the province of Zaragoza and has an area of ​​452.4 km ² 14,471 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). Its capital is Tarazona, the largest city among the 16 municipalities of the comarca, with around 70 % of its inhabitants. The Comarca is named after the city of Tarazona and Moncayo of the mountain.

The comarca was formed by Act of the Autonomous Community of Aragon of 2 July 2001, which also contains the basic provisions to its constitution.

The Comarca is bordered to the west by the provinces of La Rioja and Soria ( comarca of Campo de Gomara ), in the north of Navarre ( comarca of Tudela ), to the east by the Aragonese comarca of Campo de Borja and on the south by the Comarca Aranda.

The most significant natural heritage of the comarca is the 2,316 m high Moncayo, top of the Iberian Mountains. His neighborhood, a nature reserve with biodiversity and endemic species, is also a popular destination for tourism.

Significant cultural heritage is the old town of Tarazona, especially the Bishop's Palace, City Hall and the Cathedral. In addition, is the former monastery of Veruela, one of the great former Cistercian Monastery in Aragon, of importance.

The poet and writer Gustavo Adolfo Becquer and Valeriano Becquer used the Monastery of Veruela and the Moncayo often as inspiration for their works. In the comarca of the well-known Spanish actor Paco Martínez Soria and Raquel Meller was born.
