Arcadia is a small town in Oklahoma County in the center of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. In 2000, Arcadia had 279 inhabitants. Arcadia is located about 30 km northeast of Oklahoma Capital Oklahoma City and belongs to the metropolitan region around this city.

Foundation

Arcadia was founded in 1889 after the so-called Homestead Act, which triggered a run on unregistered lands. The fertile farmland around the Deep Fork River attracted primarily African-American and white cotton farmers. They named their city because of the peaceful and quiet location on the Greek landscape Arcadia.

Economic Development

In 1890 a post office was established. After 1902-1903, the railroad was built from Bartlesville to Oklahoma City that passed directly to Arcadia, the city was connected to the railway network and continued to prosper. They became an important regional trading center. 1904 were counted 800 inhabitants in 1907 was 994, the number of residents

1910, in Arcadia three churches and two, racially segregated schools. In the 1920s, Arcadia received telephone connection, housed two banks, seven supermarkets and two modern cotton harvesters.

After the construction of U.S. Highway 66 from Wellston Luther past Arcadia up to Edmond, brought the " Mother Road " other income for Arcadia's economic life.

" The Round Barn", the Round Barn of Arcadia

Just off Route 66 in Arcadia one of the few historical round barns has been preserved. The round shape offered, occurring in the region tornadoes less of a target. The Round Barn in Arcadia was built in 1898. Over the years, the now unused barn decayed more and more, until finally in 1988 collapsed the large roof dome. After a restoration in 1992, it now serves as a meeting room. As part of the rediscovery of the ancient historic Route 66, she was known by tourism on the borders of the region. The Round Barn is included in the list of historical monuments of the United States.
