Archduke Charles Joseph of Austria

Karl Joseph of Austria (* August 7, 1649 in Vienna, † 27 January 1664 in Linz) was Bishop of Olomouc, Bishop of Passau, Prince-Bishop of Breslau and Grand Master of the Teutonic Order.

Life

The parents were Emperor Ferdinand III. and Maria Leopoldine of Tyrol. Age of 13, he became Bishop of Olomouc and Bishop of Passau, and Grand Master of the Teutonic Order.

Following in the footsteps of his uncle, Leopold Wilhelm, from which he also inherited his fortune and his art collection, he was born on February 23, 1663 as Charles III. elected Bishop of Breslau. The election was confirmed by Pope Alexander VII on 23 April 1663 appointed archdeacon Sebastian of Rostock coadjutor.

Office and dignity was Karl Joseph, who still could not receive higher orders because of his young age, do not exercise, because he already died at the age of 15 years or less. Like his parents and other members of the House of Habsburg was buried in the crypt of the new Vienna Imperial Crypt.
