Archduke Leopold Salvator of Austria

Leopold Salvator of Austria - Tuscany ( * October 15, 1863 in Old Boleslawiec, Bohemia, † September 4, 1931 in Vienna) from the House of Habsburg- Lorraine, ( line of Habsburg-Lorraine - Tuscany) was Archduke of Austria, and Lieutenant- Feldzeugmeister.

Life

Archduke Leopold Salvator, with full name Leopold Salvator Maria Joseph Ferdinand Francis of Assisi Karl Anton von Padua Johann Baptist Januarius Aloys Gonzaga Rainer Wenzel Gallus of Austria - Tuscany, was the eldest son of Archduke Karl Salvator of Austria - Tuscany and Maria Immaculata of Naples Sicily, Princess of Bourbon- Sicily born in 1863. He was a grandson of Leopold II of Tuscany. As a scion of the Tuscan branch of the House of Habsburg- Lorraine, he enjoyed a liberal education.

Education and Career

Archduke Leopold Salvator joined in 1878 as a lieutenant in the Imperial Infantry Regiment No. 77 and received his 1881-83 military training at the Military University of Technology in Vienna. After various uses troops he graduated from the Military Academy 1887-89 and came to the Corps as a Major Artillery Regiment No. 11 to Lviv (1891 Lieutenant Colonel ). In October 1892 promoted to colonel, he commanded a battalion of Infantry Regiment No. 24 in Lemberg, since September 1894, the Corps Artillery Regiment No. 13 in Zagreb; took place in March 1896 he was appointed commander of the 13th Artillery Brigade in Zagreb ( April 1896 Major General ).

1898 Archduke Leopold Salvator returned back to the infantry back: He commanded the 72th Infantry Brigade, then - in 1899 as Lieutenant-General - the 36th Infantry Division troops in Zagreb ( Agram ), 1900-06, finally, the 25th Infantry Division troops in Vienna. On October 27, 1906, Archduke Leopold Salvator to Feldzeugmeister, appointed on 20 April 1907 General Ordnance inspector.

He was thus a member of the House of Habsburg- Lorraine and led until 1919 the title of Archduke of Austria (see Adel repeal Act ).

Progeny

On October 24, 1889 married Leopold Salvator Blanca de Castilla de Borbón ( 1868-1949 ), the eldest daughter of the Infante Carlos María de Borbón, Duke of Madrid ( 1848-1909 ), as " Carlos VII " pretender to the Spanish throne, and his wife Princess Margarita of Bourbon- Parma ( 1847-1893 ).
