Archibald Douglas, 8th Earl of Angus

Archibald Douglas, 8th Earl of Angus and 5th Earl of Morton, called the Good (* circa 1555, † August 4, 1588 in Smeaton ) was a Scottish nobleman and 1578 Lieutenant - General of the realm.

Life

Archibald was a son of David Douglas, 7th Earl of Angus, and his wife Margaret Hamilton. He succeeded his father in 1558 as Earl of Angus, in 1581 and his uncle James, who had raised him after the early death of his father as Earl of Morton.

Because of the support of his uncle, he was accused of high treason in 1581, a year later pardoned but again, a bit later, when King James VI. again to fall from grace. Archibald was banished from court and fled to England.
