William Douglas, 9th Earl of Angus

William Douglas, 9th Earl of Angus ( * ca 1532; † July 1, 1591 in Glenbervie ) was a Scottish nobleman.

Life

William was a son of Archibald Douglas of Glenbervie, a grandson of Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Angus, and his wife Agnes Keith. He succeeded his distant cousin Archibald in 1587 as Earl of Angus.

Until obtaining the earldom he bore the name of William Douglas of Glenbervie, was a close friend of Queen Mary Stuart and was involved in the Battle of Corrichie 1562. He died 59 years old with a fever in the Scottish Glenbervie.

The Earl was married to Egidia, daughter of Robert Graham, with whom he had the following children:
