Archie Mayo

Archibald L. Mayo (born 29 January 1891 in New York, USA, † December 4, 1968 in Guadalajara, Mexico) was an American film director.

Life

Mayo began as a stage actor and came to Hollywood with her ​​mid-twenties. In 1917 his directorial debut with Henry teaching Mans L -KO Kompany. He first turned exclusively slapstick short films, in the first half of the 1920s for the Christie Studios. From 1926 followed by feature films, 1927-1937 almost exclusively for Warner Brothers. There he was responsible for some movies of Kay Francis and Barbara Stanwyck. Among his best known films include Warner Street of Women and Svengali and The Petrified Forest ( The Petrified Forest ) with Bette Davis, Leslie Howard and Humphrey Bogart.
