The Mayor of Hell

The Mayor of Hell is an American film actor James Cagney in 1933, which was created by a history of Islin oyster.

Action

The story is about the gangster Patsy Gargan, who gets a job as a janitor in a reformatory. It begins as an auxiliary force that has the mandate to come to quick money for the gangster. But when he meets the children of an institution, he recognizes himself in them again. The previous caretaker was very aggressive and has not focused on the support of the children in any way. Patsy is leaving his position in the gang of criminals and is now working for the reform school along with the beautiful doctor, played by Madge Evans, who also wants to help the children.

The doctor, called Dorothy, has many good ideas for the reformatory. Together try Patsy and Dorothy a better atmosphere for the young people to create and everything is going very well at first. But Patsy has a secret that nobody knows. He has been involved in dirty politics, and he's destroying a man's life. It was actually an accident, but because Thompson is trying to take revenge on him, he now has to hide anyway. Therefore, he seeks a refuge where he can stay for a while.

In the institution are now also returned to the old caretaker Thompson, the old conditions, and Patsy is no longer there to help the boy. The caretaker Thompson is brutal and heartless with the boys. He tries to convince them that they 've given up Patsy. When Dorothy about the poor quality of the prison food complains, she is released. The boys now have no more support. At the end the boy Johnny " Skinny" Stone of Thompson will be punished. Skinny was very ill, but Thompson said that he had to sleep outside. In the morning Skinny died.

After Skinny's death the other boys want to be reformatory revenge and rebel. The boys put the man in front of a private court, which is him guilty. Tries to escape Thompson and the boys chase him to the roof of a shed. Then they put the shed on fire. Thompson tried to jump off the roof, but he lands on a fence which pierces him. Dorothy can be found in his hideout in the meantime, Patsy and told him the whole story. Patsy runs back into the school to restore order, but Thompson is dead Patsy heard what happened and lying to save the boy. Patsy eventually decides to remain at the institution and to lead the school further.

Trivia

As early as 1938 there was a remake of the film under the name Crime School with Humphrey Bogart and Gale Page in the lead roles. A year later, it was another remake, Hell's Kitchen, this time among other things with Ronald Reagan.
