Ardon River

The Ardon (Russian Ардон; ? Ossetian Æрыдон / Ærydon, pronunciation / i, meaning about Wild River ) is a 102 km long left tributary of the Terek in Russian Caucasus republic of North Ossetia -Alania with a catchment area of 2700 km ².

The Ardon originates just north of the main watershed of the Caucasus in the Severo- Ossetinski Sapowednik, the North Ossetian nature reserve.

The valley of the Ardon constitutes one of the main valleys of North Ossetia, on its banks are the place Nizhny Unal and the cities Alagir and just before its confluence with the Terek, the city of the same name Ardon.

At its upper course is built on the Saramag - hydro power plants since the 1970s; after the building work lay dormant from the mid-1980s for more than a decade, they were taken end of the last millennium again. The commissioning of the first power plant took place in late 2009, but the current production seems to have been discontinued at the end of 2010.
