The Terek (Russian Терек; Georgian თერგი / Tergi; Ossetian Терк / Terk; Kabardino Тэрч / Tartsch; Ingush Тийрк / Tijrk; Chechen Терка / Terka ) is a 623 km long tributary of the Caspian Sea in the Caucasus.
History and General
The Terek entfließt in about 3200 m of a glacier on the northeast flank of the 3,857 m high mountain Silgachoch ( silgi - Choch ), south of Mount Kazbek in Greater Caucasus, in northern Georgia. He circled the Kazbek and flows first in a northerly direction through the Darialschlucht into Russia. By nordossetische capital Vladikavkaz, the river runs further north in order to turn on the amount of Mozdok to the east. The Terek then flows through Chechnya and Dagestan. Below Kizlyar it forms a swampy, 4000 km ² large river delta.
The Russian Terek Grozny football club was named after the river just north of the city leading past, the historical Terek Cossack Army under the catchment area of the river.
Use
At its lower reaches of the Terek irrigation, at the headwaters to the operation of hydropower plants.
