Argive vase painting

The Argive vase painting was a regional style of Greek vase painting from the city of Argos.

Argos was next to Athens one of the centers of the Geometric vase-painting. The Argive pottery painters were based in particular of the Attic models, which one (about 750/690 BC ) was followed up in the late period of the style. For the geometric vases from Argos large picture windows were characteristic in which either horses or men were shown with horses. In the background, water birds or fish were often depicted. The ornaments are shaped by getreppten meanders and oriental motifs.
