Cycladic vase painting

The Cycladic vase painting was a regional style of Greek vase painting.

The Geometric vase painting of the Cyclades was marked especially in their early and middle phases of Attic influence. In the late phase can be on Naxos, Thera, Melos, Paros and find workshops that emerged all own style shapes in materials, container types and ornamental decor. Then stopped for an extended period of Subgeometrische style, and it took some time until the Oriental- style prevailed. After he had, however, done, floral and other ornaments were in high demand. It was with polychrome effects, attached red and white, and experimented in a limited extent with figurative images (animals and humans). Influences came more from the works in Attica and Eastern Greece as from the actual center of the oriental style, Corinth. In the early 7th century BC, were working in the Cyclades several artisan groups that are considered to be very innovative. It is the ad group, the linear Iceland Group and the Heraldic group. It is unclear exactly where they had their production center in the scientific discussion are Paros Naxos and other minor islands. Later, the so-called " melische style " emerged, which was different, as the name suggests, but probably at home on Paros. Here is a Corinthian influence was felt. Daring ornaments and figures, which occupied the whole body vases were characteristic. Best known is the workshop (so-called Melische amphorae ) for its wide, high Grabamphoren that were painted with polychrome, mythical scenes. In black-figure technique, there is alabastra on Andros, but these are rare.
