The Ariège is a river in the south of France and 163 kilometers long. It rises in the Pyrenees on the border with Andorra, just south of Pas de la Casa and flows in the Haute- Garonne opposite Portet -sur -Garonne near Toulouse as a right tributary of the Garonne. Its catchment area covers 4135 km ², the average flow is 65 m³ / s

Course

The river first flows towards North, makes at Ax- les -Thermes, then a turn to the northwest and turns away from Tarascon- sur -Ariege then almost constantly northward to its mouth. The European Route 09 follows the entire course of the Ariège times left rechtsuferig times. The Ariège happened in the canton of Tarascon- sur -Ariege the famous Grotte de Niaux.
