Arif Malikov

Arif Məlikov, even Arif Melikov Dschangirowitsch, (Russian Ариф Джангирович Меликов, Azerbaijani Arif oglu Cahangir Məlikov; * September 13, 1933 in Baku ) is an Azerbaijani composer.

Məlikov studied from 1953 to 1958 at the Conservatory in Baku Kara Karajew. Since 1958, he taught at the institution from 1971 with an assistant professor and since 1979 as a professor. The former Soviet Union awarded him in 1986 the title of " People's Artist of the USSR". At Bilkent University in Ankara, a concert hall was named after him.

Məlikovs work based on Azerbaijani folk music, which he combines with contemporary composition means and traditional forms. He achieved great success in 1961, first performed in Leningrad Ballet Legenda o Ljubi ( Legend of Love ). One focus of his work is considered orchestral works ( caused, among other ballets from 1958, inter alia 8 symphonies ). He also wrote numerous film scores.
