Arkhip Kuindzhi

Archip Kuindzhi Ivanovich (Russian Архип Иванович Куинджи, born 15 Januarjul / January 27 1841greg in Mariupol, Ukraine today, .. .. † 11 Julijul / July 24 1910greg in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian- Ukrainian painter of realism. He was best known for his landscape paintings.

Life

In 1841, he was born in Mariupol, the son of a Greek -born cobbler. At an early age he discovered his penchant for painting and experimented with all available materials and character basics. His training as a painter and draftsman was initially self-taught; later, in 1868, but he went to finish at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts for his education there.

Previously, he was still working as a retoucher but in Mariupol, Taganrog, Odessa and Saint Petersburg.

In 1874, he received on an International Exhibition in London for his painting " Snow " ( Снег ) the bronze medal. In the same year ( Ладожское озеро ) was in Saint Petersburg his image " Ladoga " issued.

In the period 1875-1879 he participated in the movement of Peredvizhniki. In this time many of his important landscapes such as " Forgotten Village " ( Забытая деревня ), which he first exhibited in 1875 and " Tschumazki tract " ( Чумацкий тракт ), which was introduced the following year. Both images are now in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. In the same year, 1876 one of his most famous paintings created - "The Ukrainian night " ( Украинская ночь ), which is also exhibited in the Tretyakov Gallery .. 1879 are his pictures " north" ( Север ) and "After the Storm " ( После грозы ) issued. A year later, he is a traveling exhibition of the Peredvizhniki one of his paintings available: the picture "Night on the Dnieper " ( Ночь на Днепре ); the exhibition a success. "Night on the Dnieper River " is now in the Russian Museum. Then Kuindzhi turned to his death from no more of his pictures.

In the period 1894-1897 he was a professor at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. After he had supported student protests in 1897, he was made redundant. His students included, inter alia, Arkadi Alexandrovich Rylow, Nicholas Roerich and Konstantin Fyodorovich Bogayevsky.

Archip Ivanovich Kuindzhi suggested in 1904 to the formation of a company of artists. To this end, he founded the Academy of Art 100,000 rubles with the proviso auszuloben 24 premiums annually.
