Armenzano

Armenzano (Latin Armentum ) is a part of the municipality of Assisi in the province of Perugia, in Umbria, central Italy.

The former village is located 8 km east of Assisi nestled on the Subasio at an altitude of about 740 m above sea level. It now has about 50 inhabitants.

There is a central castle on a hill around which the group in two concentric circles, the houses of the village.

In the Middle Ages this castle belonged to Count Napoleone di umbertino dei Monaldi, a friend of St. Francis, he welcomed more often. At the same time Armenzano was placed under a community town of Spello and the Count of Spoleto. Later the village was sold to Assisi and since 1860 an integral district.
