Armin Scheurer

Armin Scheurer ( born December 24, 1917 † 27 August 1990) was a Swiss athlete who in 1946 and 1950 top rankings in the decathlon and pole vault reached at the European Championships.

At the European Championships 1946 in Oslo Scheurer had reported in the decathlon and pole vault. After he finished the decathlon, he pulled out his message for the pole vault back. In the decathlon, he reached 6655 points, which correspond to 6458 points after the points table of 1985. After former scoring he lacked only six points to the winner of the bronze medal, the Swede Göran Waxberg.

1948 Scheurer gave up at the Olympic Games in London after the first discipline. At the European Championships in 1950 in Brussels Scheurer reached in the decathlon 6944 points ( = 6637 ) and finished fifth. On the first day of struggle Ten he qualified in between with a jump of 4.00 m for the finals in the pole vault. The day after the decathlon he jumped again 4.00 m and was sixth in the pole vault. The end of 1950 Armin Scheurer was voted athlete of the year.

Overall Scheurer reached from 1942 to 1951 in athletics 15 title of Swiss Champion, six each in the pole vault and decathlon, two in the triple jump and long jump. He set nine national records in the pole vault, where he raised the record of 4.03 m to 4.30 m. The national record in the triple jump, he improved twice, most recently at 14.58 m. the triple jump record was improved in 1954 by Fritz Portmann, pole vault record in 1960 by Gérard Barras.

Scheurer started as a track and field athlete for the BTV Biel. When a body height of 1.84 m Scheurer had a competition weight of 82 kg.

In addition to his athletics career Scheurer also played football. He was an amateur at the squad of FC Biel -Bienne in the 1946/1947 season, when Biel won their only league title.
