Arminas Narbekovas

Arminas Narbekovas ( ursprpünglich Russian Армин Андреевич Нарбеков; born November 28, 1965 in Gargždai then Soviet Union ) is a former Lithuanian footballer. The midfielder played for the Soviet and Lithuanian national team.

Career

With 18 years Narbekovas debuted for Zalgiris Vilnius in the Wysschaja League, the top division of the Soviet Union. In 1987, he led the club with 16 goals on the 2nd place, what was the biggest league success Zalgiris ' before the independence of Lithuania. In the following season Zalgiris went to the UEFA Cup and lost in the first round against FK Austria Wien, Narbekovas ' club later.

He was elected four times from 1985 to 1988 in succession to Lithuanian football player of the year.

In 1988, he won with the Soviet national team the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Seoul. He never played in an official FIFA match for the Soviet selection. In 1990 he won with Zalgiris Vilnius, the first edition of the Baltic League.

After a brief stopover at Lokomotiv Moscow Narbekovas moved in 1990 to Vienna, Austria. With the Austria he was three-time Austrian Champion and 1992 and 1994 Cup Winners' Cup. In 1995 he played for Admira Wacker Mödling and various other unterklassige clubs in Austria.

For the Lithuanian national team, he played from 1990 13 times, scoring seven goals. On May 27, 1990, Lithuania met in the first game after its independence at all on Georgia, which also had just gained independence. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, with Narbekovas scored the first goal.

In 2003 he was elected to the Golden Player of Lithuania to the best Lithuanian players of the past 50 years.

In 2005 he took over the presidency in his home club Zalgiris Vilnius. This he conducted successfully until 2007 and left him after the investor was arrested and the club could no longer be financed.

Subsequently, he worked during his training for Uefa A license as coach of area league club SV " Danube" Langenlebarn in Austria and from 2010 to January 2012 in Banga Gargždai in Lithuania, with which he first qualified for the Uefa Cup. In parallel, he has been responsible for the beginning of 2010 together with Raimondas Zutautas the Lithuanian national team. In the 2012/2013 season, he oversaw the Latvian first division club Spartak Jurmala. He is currently coach of the Lithuanian U21 National Team and is touted as a future president of the Lithuanian Football Federation.

His son of the same Arminas Narbekovas Jr. is also an active soccer player and played, among others, already for the amateurs of FK Austria Wien, the FAC Team für Wien, the Gersthoferstrasse SV, the amateurs of FC Admira Wacker Mödling.
