Arnold Hermann Ludwig Heeren

Arnold Hermann Ludwig Heeren ( born October 25, 1760 Arbergen in Bremen, † March 6, 1842 in Göttingen ) was a German historian.

Biography

Heeren was the son of Arberger priest and later Dompredigers HE armies. He attended the Cathedral School in Bremen and studied from 1779 at the Georg- August-Universität Göttingen first theology, then philosophy and history. From 1784 Privatdozent in Göttingen, he undertook to prepare his edition of John Stobaeus a trip to Italy, France and the Netherlands. After his return he was in 1787 in Göttingen Extraordinary, 1794 as full professor of philosophy in 1801 appointed professor of history, later councilor and in 1837 a Privy Councillor. He was a member of the Göttingen Masonic Lodge Augusta to the golden circle.

With his influential work on trade and transport history, he broke new ground for those historians. With Friedrich August Ukert he founded in 1829 the compilation history of the European states and edited from 1833 to 1840 the Gottingen learned displays.

Heeren was since 1796 with Wilhelmine Heyne ( 1779-1861 ), the daughter of his colleague Christian Gottlob Heyne, married.
