Arnold Lang

Arnold Lang ( born June 18, 1855 in Oftringen, † November 30, 1914 in Zurich, hometown entitled in Oftringen ) was a Swiss zoologist.

Life

Long attended the Old Canton Aarau school and later studied biology at the Universities of Geneva and Jena. In March 1876, he earned his doctorate under Ernst Haeckel and habilitated in May 1876. He assisted from 1878 to 1885 at the Zoological Station in Naples, erlang 1886-1889 Charles Knight Professor of Zoology at Jena phylogenetic and was from 1889 to 1914 professor of zoology and comparative anatomy as well as Director of the Zoological Institute and the collections of two Zurich universities. From 1898 to 1900 he was rector of the university.

Arnold long been an important zoologist, a comparative anatomist, embryologist and earlier genetic experimenter. The planning and realization of the university buildings in today's old university center was decisively shaped by him. In 1914 he received an honorary Doctorate ( Dr. hc ) of ETH Zurich and the Faculty of Law of the University of Zurich was awarded.
