Arnold Moss

Arnold Moss ( born January 28, 1910 in Brooklyn, New York City; † 15 December 1989, New York) was an American theater and film actor.

Life

Arnold Moss studied Latin and Greek at the City College of New York. After he had made at Columbia University with a Masters in Old French, he taught from 1933 to 1940 Acting at Brooklyn College. Besides, he tried his hand as an actor on the stage. He joined initially serve for two years Eva Le Galliennes Civic Repertory Theatre. In 1929, he had already made ​​his debut on Broadway, where he repeatedly occurred until the early 1970s, including in Shakespeare plays such as The Tempest, Twelfth Night, King Lear and Measure for Measure. For his portrayal of Prospero in The Tempest and Malvolio in Twelfth Night, he received good reviews. With his deep voice and impeccable pronunciation, he worked in the 1930s regularly in radio. He has starred in numerous plays and was a speaker at CBS Radio in New York.

In 1946 he made ​​his feature film debut, which he was mostly seen due to its dark appearance in supporting roles as a villain or as a foreign Bandit in Hollywood productions. Since the 1950s, he appeared in numerous American television series with, such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1958), Star Trek (Star Trek, 1966), Whenever he took ( Mr. Terrific, 1967), Bonanza pills (1968) and Fantasy Iceland (1978). However, he devoted himself mainly to continue the theater and toured with the theater group he founded, the Shakespeare Festival Players, through the United States. In the early 1960s he was awarded a doctorate at New York University. He also wrote articles about theater for the New York Times.

From 1933 he was married to Stella Reynolds, with whom he had two children, Andrea and Jeff Moss ( 1942-1998 ). Jeff later worked as a composer also in the movie business. Arnold Moss died in 1989 at the age of 79 in his hometown of New York of lung cancer.
