Arnold Othmar Wieland

Arnold Othmar Wieland ( born August 1, 1940 in Lengmoos, South Tyrol ) is a theologian and was Master of the Teutonic Order of 1988 to 2000.

Life

After graduation Othmar Wieland entered on October 5, 1959, in the Teutonic Order, where he received the religious name Arnold. After he had taken the simple profession on October 6, 1960, he began the study of theology and was ordained priest on 29 June 1966, after he had taken final vows already on 28 December 1965. In 1969 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Justin at the University of Innsbruck. The province of South Tyrol belonging and here tätigend various tasks in the care of souls, he was elected on August 29, 1988 for the 64th Grand Master of the Teutonic Order and was ordained on 30 October 1988 by the Bishop of Bolzano-Bressanone Wilhelm Egger in Lana abbot. On October 29, 1994, he was re-elected as Grand Master.

Not re-elected at the General Chapter of the Order of 2000, he also lost the right to use the Pontifikalien and now resigned to the series of simple members of the Order. After he was still remained some years in Vienna, he returned to his home province, where he is now again active in pastoral ministry. Since 2003 he is a university chaplain at the Free University of Bolzano.

Since 1997, Arnold Othmar Wieland is an honorary member of the KAV Capitolina Rome in CV.
