Arnold Rice Rich

Arnold Rice Rich ( born March 28, 1893 in Birmingham, Alabama, † April 17, 1968 in Baltimore, Maryland) was an American pathologist. In addition to Louis Virgil Hamman, he was the namesake of the Hamman - Rich syndrome ( present name Acute interstitial pneumonia).

Rich studied biology at the University of Virginia. In 1915 he went to the Johns Hopkins Medical School and graduated in 1919 the degree of MD. At the suggestion of the surgeon William Stewart Halsted he turned to the pathology. With the exception of a sabbatical at the Vienna internist Hans Eppinger, he spent his entire career at the Pathological Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. Arnold Rice Rich was appointed in 1944 as professor of pathology. In 1947 he took over the management of pathology at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
