Arnprior, Stirling

Arnprior is a village in the unitary authority of Stirling. It is located 22 km west of Stirling on the A811 and is one of the smallest municipalities of traditional Scottish county of Stirlingshire, with a population of 109 in 1991.

The name comes from the Gaelic word Arnprior earrann ( to German: Division of the country) and in this case had the prior of Inchmahome the country. Walter Comyn, the Earl of Menteith, founded the priory in 1238, so the name might be about eight hundred years old. There are other " Arns " in Arnprior and surrounding areas. Some refer size (eg Arnmore ) and other former owners (eg Arnfinlay ).

Arnprior is located near the national nature reserve Flanders Moss and close to the eastern boundary of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, which includes the Lake of Menteith.
