Arp 299

Arp 299 is an approximately 40 million parsecs distant system of interacting galaxies in the constellation Ursa Major. The system consists of a merging pair of galaxies whose cores is only about 22 " apart, and located an approximately one minute of arc north-west, small E/S0-Galaxie.

The catalog designations NGC 3690 and IC 694 refer to this system, the mapping is done inconsistently. For further confusion also caused by the fact that 694 are erroneously assigned Arp 296 in Arp's Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies NGC 3690 and IC designations, another interacting galaxy pair, only a few minutes of arc of Arp 299 away.

In Arp 299 system, the supernovae SN 1992bu, SN 1993G were, SN 1998T and SN 1999d and SN 1990al and SN 2005U observed.
