Arrowrock Dam

The Arrow Rock Dam is a dam with a concrete arch dam as a shut-off on the Boise River in Idaho, USA. It stands on the border of Counties Boise County and Elmore County. The main purpose of the dam is irrigation for agriculture. At its completion in 1915, the dam ( 107 or even 110 m according to some sources and depending on the reference point) was at 106 meters above sea level the highest of the earth, until it was surpassed in 1924 by the Schräh dam in Switzerland.

Planning began in 1910. Starting from 1912 produced a hydroelectric power plant on an auxiliary dam 1500 kW electrical power for the site. The three turbines came from Germany and were the first with a vertical axis. In 1976 she came to the National Register of Historic Places. 2002, the power house has been renovated. On 4 October 1915, the dam was finished. Beginning there were many visitors who were brought up with a specially built for the dam railroad. 1916 it has ceased operations after five years due to lack of interest again.

The construction of a thermometer were installed to monitor the temperature of the concrete for the first time. The concrete was brought to the construction site with a crane cable.
