Arseniy Golovko

Arseny Golovko Grigoryevich (Russian Арсений Григорьевич Головко, scientific transliteration Arseny Golovko Grigorjevič, .. * 10 Junijul / June 23 1906greg in Prochladny in the North Caucasus, † May 17, 1962 ) was a Soviet admiral.

He joined in 1925 the Soviet fleet and graduated in 1928 Seeoffiziersschule in Leningrad. After that he was on duty in various Soviet fleets including as Flaggsperroffizier and chief of staff of a torpedo speedboat brigade. In the years 1937 and 1938, he participated on the part of left-wing government in the Spanish Civil War. After his return to the USSR Golovko visited the Seekriegsakademie. From 1940 to 1946 he was commander of the Northern Fleet. Then he was on duty at various duty positions of the Soviet naval fleet, including as commander of the Baltic Fleet. In 1956 he was appointed first Deputy Supreme Commander of the Soviet naval fleet. Golovko was honored four times with the Order of Lenin, four times with the Red Banner, twice with the Uschakoworden and numerous other domestic and foreign orders and medals for his service.
