Ã…rsta Castle

Castle Årsta ( Årsta slott ) is a castle in the municipality of Haninge near Stockholm.

Årsta was in the 13th century seat of the Swedish commandery of the Teutonic Order in Livonia. In 1467 it passed into the possession of Erik Axelsson Tott. The castle was rebuilt in 1660 for Admiral Bjelkenstjerna, as an architect was possibly Erik Dahlberg involved. Beginning of the 19th century it acquired Carl Fredrik Bremer, whose daughter, the novelist Fredrika Bremer, lived here and in Stockholm. As Fredrika Bremer died in the house in 1865, it was already since 1853 the Swedish industrialist Lars Johan Hierta, who founded the newspaper Aftonbladet. The castle changed hands several times and still was commissioned in 1966 the property of the municipality Österhaninge (now Haninge municipality ) on.
