Art Cologne

Art Cologne is the oldest art fair in the world. It takes place at Koelnmesse in Cologne- Deutz annually. In 1967, she was launched on the initiative of the gallery Hein Stünke and Rudolf Zwirner as " the Cologne Art Fair " in Gürzenich to life. History

On the first Art Market Cologne participated in eighteen Galleries; with 15,000 visitors and one million German marks sales, the event was a great success. 1968 moved the show to the more spacious, existing until 2001 Josef- Haubrich - Kunsthalle. The organization was transferred to the Cologne fair society. In 1975, the name of the show was changed to "International Art Market " ( IKM ). For the first time, in cooperation with the Federal Association of German Galleries ( BVDG ), the Art Cologne Prize awarded. The fair was held in Cologne and Dusseldorf alternately. In 1984 the fair for the time being the last time a new name: the IKM the species was Cologne, which since then only takes place in Cologne.

2007 Art Cologne has been moved from the traditional autumn date into the spring. In the fall, also caused by the current organizer Koelnmesse in Cologne Fine Art life now takes place. Director of Art Cologne since 2008, the U.S. art dealer Daniel Hug. He followed the incumbent since 2003, Gérard Goodrow.

ART COLOGNE prices

The ART COLOGNE Prize is endowed with 10,000 euros and is awarded since 1988 during the show by the Federal Association of German Galleries and art dealers annually ( BVDG ) together with Koelnmesse.

  • The ART COLOGNE Prize 2009 was awarded Harald Falck mountain because he has done with his art collection Falkenberg contemporary art to a wide audience.
  • In 2010, the family of collectors Graesslin Award for their " outstanding contribution to the teaching of modern art " with the ART COLOGNE Prize.
