Description

Appearance and foliage leaf

The Glacier Edelraute grows as a perennial herbaceous plant with plant height up to 18 inches. It forms dense turf. The aerial parts are hairy silky silvery.

The change-constant leaves are stalked. The leaf blade is two-fold pinnatisect with three column sections and narrow linealischen, something blunt Fiederlappen. The upper stem leaves are long-petiolate and their leaf surface is less divided.

Inflorescence, flower and fruit

The Glacier Edelraute flowers from June to August. The basket- shaped, diameter 4-7 mm large part inflorescences are usually together in a terminal, schirmtraubigen total inflorescence. The egg-shaped, blunt at the top bracts are colored green in the middle and have a brown skin edge. They are hairy silky shaggy and form the hemispherical shell. The chaff leafless basket bottom is covered with dense hair. In a basket are 25 to 50 bright yellow and hairless tubular flowers together. Edge are employed up to ten female flowers present, the remaining flowers are hermaphrodite.

The fruits are egg-shaped and inverted hairless achenes.

Occurrence, threats and conservation

The Glacier Edelraute is native to the southwestern Alps of Italy, Switzerland and France. It grows on slate rock on rock and scree slopes at altitudes 2000-3100 meters.

It is " near threatened " in Switzerland in the Red List as out and one of the protected plants of Switzerland and France.

System

Artemisia glacialis was first described in 1763 by Carolus Linnaeus in the second edition of Species Plantarum.

In the German-speaking region or the other following trivial names were used for this species, some only regionally, related: Eisstabwurz (Bernese Oberland), Gabuse (Bern), Glacier Gabüsen (Bernese Oberland), Green Raut ( Pongau, Pinzgau, Zillerthal ), silver diamonds ( Fusch im Pinzgau ) and Wildeisskraut ( Pongau, Pinzgau, Zillerthal ).
