Arthur Albiston

Arthur Richard Albiston (* July 14, 1957 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish football player and football coach.

Career

Playing career

The defensive player came in July 1972 to Manchester United. His first professional contract signed the Scot in July 1974. His debut for United was Albiston in a League Cup match against local rivals Manchester City in 1974. He played mainly on the position of left-back. The Briton won with Manchester United in 1977, 1983 and 1985 the FA Cup. In August 1988, the Scot moved to West Bromwich Albion, where his former coach Ron Atkinson worked. After just one season at the Hawthorns, he moved to Dundee United, then to Chesterfield FC, Chester City and Molde FK in Norway. International Albiston played 14 times for Scotland. He made his debut on 14 October 1981 against the Northern Irish selection. Albiston was a member of the Scottish selection for the Football World Cup 1986 in Mexico. There he was used once, in a 0-0 draw against the Hungarian national football team. Scotland difference in the group stage as a group last.

Further career

After end of his career as a player was Albiston Coach of Droylsden FC (1996-1997) and a youth coach at Manchester United ( 2000-2004). Furthermore, the Scot worked as a columnist for the Manchester Independent.
