Artist's Shit

Merda d' artista ( German artist shit) is a well-known project of the Italian conceptual artist Piero Manzoni.

In 1961, Manzoni filled 30 g each his own feces in 90 doses and locked this odor resistant. Doses were individually numbered 001-090 and multilingual merda d' artista labeled or artist shit. The cans were sold by the artist finally to the then current gold price for 30 grams

Manzoni's work is influenced by ideas of the ready-mades of Marcel Duchamp. The action earned as expected quite a stir and was famous for the one due to the radical break with the artistic tradition, for others as an obvious sign of degeneration and decadence of modern art.

The cans were all sold and are scattered in various collections around the world. You now have a significantly higher value than the amount carried by Manzoni, a can achieved in 2008 at Sotheby's a Auktionsspreis of 97 250 British pounds (about 132,000 Euros ).
