Arturo Herbruger

Arturo Herbruger Asturias ( * June 3, 1912; † 25 October 1999) was a Guatemalan politician.

Biography

After schooling, he studied law and was 1949-1953 President of the Supreme Court ( Corte Suprema de Justicia de Guatemala). Later he worked as Attorney General and as Secretary of the Treasury.

In 1983, he was the founder and until 1993, Chairman of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, the supervision of the elections to the Constituent National Assembly in 1984 and the presidential elections in 1985 and 1990. After the failed coup of 25 May 1993 against President Jorge Antonio Serrano Elias, he was appointed after the appointment of Ramiro de León Carpio as President on 6 June 1993 Vice President and held this office until January 14, 1996.

Subsequently, he was until his death a member of the Central American Parliament, which consists of 120 representatives from Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic.
