Arzal

Arzal ( Breton: Arzhal ) is a commune with 1491 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It belongs to the community association Communauté de communes Arc Bretagne Sud.

Geography

Arzal is located on the estuary of the Vilaine. Neighboring municipalities are Muzillac in the West, Marzan in the north and Férel, Camoël and Pénestin in the south.

Attractions

  • The Mill of Séréac was built in 1653 of granite and was until 1950.
  • The Chapel of Saint -Jean -Baptiste de Lantierne was built in the 12th century on a T-shaped floor plan. In the 17th century the church was rebuilt and enlarged.

Infrastructure

Arzal has its own junction of the highway-like -developed N 165, which runs from Nantes to Brest via Vannes.

The municipal area is the Barrage d' Arzal, a locking mechanism for regulating the outflow of the Vilaine. The Barrage d' Arzal also serves as a road crossing over the River Vilaine. Marina is located on the upriver side of the barrage.
